The first full week of school is over, and we had a great time. We worked hard on our procedures, and we started spelling groups and science investigation this week.
Spelling words are pre-tested on Fridays. Your students spelling group depends on how your student tested. All students are responsible to know the weekly spelling words. Some students may have challeng words or multisyllable words using the same focus pattern for the week. If your student has the challenge words it means they did very good on the pretest for the weekly words and they only need to practice the challenge words. All students doing the challenge words will have their grade adjusted at the end of the week when we give the spelling tests,
Our focus strategies this week are sequencing and cause and effect.
Don't forget to read every night with your student and fill out your reading log.
Math Objectives
Last week we learned how to use the interactive test clickers with the computer. This week se are starting place value and number sence to 100. Keep working with your students on the ones place, tens place, and hundreds place.
Things to practice
Counting to 100
Regrouping groups of tens
Writing numbers to 25
Sorting groups of objects
Discovery Science
We are working on our balance unit. Talk to your student about their investigations.
Our Focus Question
- How many ways can a shape be balanced?
What We Learned
- something is balanced when it stays in one position on its own without being held there
- The clothspins (counterweights) should go low on the crayfish to make it balance
- We could balance arches, triangles, and even pencils by putting counterweights below the balance point
